But the last time I had an infected tooth, I took antibiotics and the infection cleared up.

This is an all-too-common claim because when a patient feel OK, they think nothing’s wrong.  The truth is that antibiotics are natural anti-inflammatory agents and so yes, you might feel better, but the problem still exists until it is dealt with directly.  Antibiotics are all immune suppressants, so they decrease your body’s response to the problem….Not So Good!!

Please understand, I am not against antibiotics and I do write prescriptions for them, but after 25 years of practice I find that I am writing probably 80% less antibiotic prescriptions than I did when I first graduated from dental school because it just is not necessary most of the time!
